March of the Writers 2026!

Welcome one and welcome all to another set of prompts for March of the Writers. Like last year, we’re sharing the topics, so you have time to plan, prepare, process, think about, and probably procrastinate to leave things for the last moment lol. For those who don’t know, March of the Writers is a yearly tradition where we take 31 prompts for the 31 days of the month of March to connect with our readers. How you approach each topic is up to you and there are only two rules: Be respectful to others and have fun.

Want to make weekly entries with all the prompts for that week? Go for it. Want to make a daily video? Why not? Want to include topics in your podcast? I like the sound of that. This effort is absolutely ALL about the #YouDoYou ethos. The prompts are to serve as inspiration so by all means, enjoy yourself. That’s the biggest goal.

If you DO participate, feel free to use the following hashtags to connect with readers and writers: #MOTW2026 #MOTW #MarchOfTheWriters.

And now, without further, subsequent, or insistent ados…the prompts for March of the Writers 2026:

1.        Who is this is?

Who are you? What have you done? What WILL you do? Where do you live? Etc. This is your chance to introduce yourself so by all means, clean up nice and show people how much you rock.

2.        Genre-lly speaking

Some people love to explore a variety of genres while others LOVE their chosen path and want to push a specific genre as much as they can. What genre or genres do you write in and why those genres? What calls you to those?

3.        Cover stars

Never judge a book by its cover is one of the greatest fallacies of our times. Of COURSE people judge a book by its cover. For me, I’m immensely proud of my work and the collaborations I’ve been able to do with artists and this is a perfect opportunity to pimp out your artists.

4.        Where you are and where you’re going

Some people are so organized it’s scary. Others just flow nonchalantly across the cosmos and somehow things align. But often times we’re not aware of WHERE we are on our writer journey, be it because we’re busy staying afloat or because we don’t ask ourselves some important questions. Ask yourself, where are you, where are you going. No wrong answers and who knows? Maybe you know exactly where you are and maybe your readers will think you’re elsewhere and let you know you absolutely rock.

5.        Your Origins Story.

Inspiration is a curious thing though like Spider-Man, many writers know the exact moment they got bit by the writing bug. Share your origins story with us.

6.        Writing Tribe

March of the Writers has a couple of recurring topics and although writing is a solitary discipline, we have support and connect with so many people. Tell us some of the people in your tribe and bonus points if you share pics or vids with your writing besties.

7.        Tune in or Tune out (MOTW PLAYLIST)

Music soothes the savage beast though for me, it’s also essential to my writing. For years, I’ve been compiling a writing playlist with music from all genres so people can either follow the playlist, browse it, or listen to it in its entirety. I’m ALWAYS one for sharing the wealth so if you have some tracks you’d like to add, let me know and I’ll add to the playlist. If you yourself have your own curated playlists, feel free to share them as well.

8.        MOTW – This or That

Save this picture and circle, put an or a checkmark next to your choice, and share with your friends.

9.        How do you recharge?

Whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional fatigue, getting tired happens to all of us at some point. How do YOU recharge? Do you call a friend, go for a walk, go for a surf, meditate, sleep in, binge-watch, play video games, or something else? Let us know how YOU recharge to keep on keepin’ on.

10.  Peeves & Thank You

Us writers are a curious bunch and sometimes, the things that annoy us are hilarious. Share some of your writer pet peeves, whether it’s about your writing, books you read, or life in general.

11.  Bookmark Flex

Another fan favorite and you know you love to gloat. So share your bookmarks and let everyone envy your collection.

12.  Coffee Vs. Tea

The age-old question and one that tickles me pink. The PASSION with which people defend their brew of choice. It’s glorious. So let us know, which one is your fav and why.

13.  The Eleph-AI-nt in the Room

AI is one of the most talked about and hotly debated topics in the world. The impact from 2023 to 2024 and then last year shows that it is here to stay, for better, worse, or somewhere in between. Some people have found great success in using it. Others hate it with a passion. Rather than ask a specific question, this prompt is for you to share your perspective on AI in regard to your writer journey. At the very least, we all have plenty of thoughts so here’s to chatting it up.

14.  Bookshelf stats

Here’s a new one. How about you show off your bookshelf. How do you organize your bookshelf? What’s next up to read? What books will you keep forever? Or in short, how do you shelve your books?

15.  What readers say about you

Self-doubt is such a bastard and robs us of joy so often. THIS post is to invite yourself to share reviews from your book or if you have a street team, ask them to say a short vid about what they think of you. This post is to bring on the POSITIVE chatter into the chat. Thump your chest, pat yourself on the back, and say something nice about yourself AND your writing.

16.  Writers Beware

This is another recurring topic but one of the most important ones. As writers, we are bombarded with a variety of scams so it’s up to us to keep an eye out and help a fellow writer to make sure scammers and spammers don’t get anywhere near us. Share some important tips to help others.

17.  Healthfully Yours

Healthy writing habits can be mental or physical and I’ve even had a panel based on this sole topic because how we make sure we are OK and stay healthy varies from person to person. Yet sometimes a small adjustment can make a big difference. What are some practices you have to stay healthy in body and mind.

18.  Where the magic happens

Do you have a favorite writing spot? Does your desk inspire you to kick ass on every page? Show us your secret writing lair :)

19.  Writer Feels

While drafting prompts for March of the Writers, I was at the mechanic and had five people sitting nearby and I asked them, if they could ask a writer anything, what would they ask. They had some typical questions, but this one blew me away. The idea is to describe how writing feels. When it’s flowing, when it’s not flowing, and when you find your rhythm and strike gold. LOVE that we can all express this in so many ways, so show us: what does writing feel like?

20.  Snack Attack

Writer’s need fuel. Sometimes it’s motivation, often it’s a snack. What does YOUR brain thrive on?

21.  Writer DNA – Inspiration

Influences come in many ways and eventually, our writer identity comes through. Now, understanding where we come from and what is essential to who we are as writers is always a good way of staying true to our voice and our story no matter what life brings. Show us what’s in your DNA.

22.  BETA ways of doing things

Finding REAL beta readers that aren’t trying to mooch money off you can be tricky at times. How do you go about finding beta readers, what are your requirements, and what do you do as thanks for their help?

23.  Writer Resolutions

Resolutions are often a wash, but it feels like there’s a BIG shift in many things. For me, I’m shifting many things in how and where I do things and I’m wondering who else is going to be changing things up and how.

24.  Around the world – Where do people read you?

Something I appreciate from my readers is how varied they are and how I’ve been fortunate enough to connect with people from all over the world. Take a world Atlas and jot down the countries in which people have read you. This is to show you that your work matters more than you know and that in these globalized times, our reach is boundless.

25.  Obstacle Course

Sometimes it feels like it’s us against the world JUST to get to writing. If you had to make an obstacle course inspired by your writer challenges, what would be in it?

26.  Recurring Occuring

Some topics are always nearby when it comes to our writing. What are some topics that often make their way into your writing?

27.  Writer confessional

We all have fears and doubts and sometimes the best way to face them is to be honest with those fears and frustrations. What are some of your fears you want to own?

28.  Dream on

Having lofty goals can be a great thing. Now that we confessed our fears, how about we manifest some of our dreams?

29.  Quirks for Days

As writers, we’re a quirky bunch. What are some of your quirks as a person, a reader, a writer, anything. Just make sure to bring the quirkiness.

30.  Key Figures

On our writer journey, there are a couple of people that have made a big difference. Share who some of those people are on your journey and what they mean to you.

31.  Thank you, come again

It’s been swell. So let people know where else they can find you, what you have in store for 2026 and beyond.

And there you have it, your 2026 prompts. Feel free to engage with these prompts however you prefer and if you have questions, ask away. Keep on marching, fellow writers.
